📈 Markets Hit Records, Risks Linger
Stocks climbed to new highs last week, powered by optimism over interest rate cuts and AI innovation. Even with weaker jobs and manufacturing data, momentum stayed strong. A drop in private payrolls and signs of slowing growth added caution, but didn’t shake investor confidence. A government shutdown delayed key reports, putting more weight on private data and company earnings.
This week may stay quiet on the data front, especially if the shutdown continues. Investors should keep an eye on any Fed commentary that could shift expectations for rate cuts or signal tighter policy ahead.

Where Canada’s Market Momentum Came From (2022–2025)
Q3 2025 Crypto Gains

Bitcoin rose 6.4% in Q3, a modest gain compared to its 30% surge in Q2, which was fueled by optimism over crypto-friendly U.S. regulations. It peaked in mid-August at around $123,000 per coin. Meanwhile, Ether outperformed, jumping 65.5% over the same period. Bitcoin has since broken a new all-time high above $125,000 in early October, marking a strong start to Q4.
Battery Storage Boom
BESS (Battery Energy Storage Systems) is the fastest-growing part of battery demand, with its market share doubling in just three years, according to Benchmark Minerals. Demand grew by more than 50% in 2024 and is forecast to rise at the same pace in 2025, driven by technological improvements, regulatory support, and strong financial backing. Publicly listed companies with exposure include:
Fluence Energy (NASDAQ: FLNC)
Eos Energy Enterprises (NASDAQ: EOSE)
Stem Inc. (NASDAQ: STEM)
Neovolta (NASDAQ: NEOV)
Flux Power (NASDAQ: FLUX)
Electrovaya (TSX: EFL)
Earnings Performance
Cal-Maine Foods Inc
Cal-Maine Foods, Inc. (NASDAQ: CALM), posted a strong Q1, with 17% revenue growth year-over-year, and robust gains in shell egg, specialty, and prepared foods sales. However, both top and bottom lines fell short of analyst forecasts, causing a modest stock pullback. The prepared foods segment, boosted by the Echo Lake acquisition of a leading processed egg and breakfast foods maker, jumped 839%, underscoring Cal-Maine’s push to diversify beyond volatile shell-egg markets into value-added products.
The company is under a DOJ antitrust investigation into egg pricing, a risk shadowing its gains. Looking ahead, execution in integrating acquisitions, managing disease risk, and navigating regulatory scrutiny will be critical for sustaining growth momentum.

FINRA Votes to Drop $25K Day-Trading Rule
FINRA has proposed removing the $25,000 minimum account requirement for pattern day traders. If approved by the SEC, traders could use intraday margin based on risk, typically around 25% of a position’s value.
This change would lower the barrier for retail investors to day trade. It could mean more flexibility but also more risk. Many retail traders already make up over 20% of daily market volume, often with minimal research.
